Recently I have started climbing at an indoor gym in a pathetic attempt to utilize extra calories. A byproduct of this has been the calluses forming on my hands. This is how my skin tries to protect itself from the rough treatment I'm subjecting it to. This led me to thinking of gospel metaphors. Often the word callus is used synonymously with the phrase 'hardened heart'. This relation hasn't ever jived well with me. Yes calluses are formed from rough treatment but in an attempt to protect from further subjection to said treatment. My thoughts then trailed towards the idea of gloves and lotion which help to prevent and/or repair this growth on the skin and how this could be related to keeping our spirits protected from rough treatment. Every day we encounter rough/vulgar/inappropriate situations in which we could be harmed. After a while we become used to this and it doesn't have as much of an affect on us. This has become apparent to me during my time the 'bubble' of Utah. In my home of Florida I was accustomed to curse words on a daily basis, heavy sexual innuendo (and even the not so innuendo/implied situations too), and violence. After my time here even hearing a curse word or some form of the other examples I slightly cringe. This led me to think that I could take precautions in my life that involve much of the response often heard in Primary classes of search ponder and pray.
On a separate note keep your fingers crossed and include me in your prayers as I have applied for a job as an ombudsman/judiciary assistant and I'm also applying/preparing for a study abroad in Ireland.
Interesting thought. I liked how you put that.
